Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

Looking for a Section Chief of Transplant Surgery to lead and grow an abdominal organ transplant program within an academic medical center. The candidate should have expertise in transplant surgery, including organ transplantation and recovery, with a focus on clinical excellence, program development, and multidisciplinary care.

As an attending at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, responsibilities will include all aspects of patient care and medical record completion, teaching of students, residents and fellows via clinical patient rounds, Grand Rounds, and departmental conferences; participation in community education programs and lecture series; submission of abstracts/manuscripts for publication; and other duties as assigned by the Division Chief, Chair or Dean. Position duties will be to function as the Section Chief of Transplant Surgery.

This will include:

  • Leading the transplant program and overseeing complex patient care
  • Rounding on transplant patients and taking call
  • Managing transplant operations, including evaluations, waitlist, and donor care
  • Administrative duties, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance
  • Recruitment, mentoring, and participation in residency and fellowship programs
  • Responsible for educating medical students, residents, and other post–graduates.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • This position requires an M. D. or equivalent
  • Must be board-certified in General Surgery with fellowship training in Abdominal Organ Transplantation, robotic/laparoscopic training/experience is preferred and be eligible for an academic appointment. Expertise in all aspects of Pancreas Transplantation is highly desired.

Certifications/Licenses

Active New Jersey Medical License preferred, or eligibility for licensure in New Jersey.
