Why does the job exist?
The Supv, Healthcare Surveyor/QMB Healthcare Surveyor Supervisor will:
- Lead the compliance survey team and provide leadership, supervision and guidance;
- Ensure Healthcare Surveyor are trained, and providers are in compliance with State and Federal regulations as required by DDSD and CMS;
- Perform preparation for, and conduct surveys if individuals with intellectual / developmental disabilities, mental illness and other disabling conditions living in the community, who receive services from the Home and Community Based Waiver programs providing Developmental Disabilities, Mi Via and Medically Fragile Waiver funded services.
How does it get done?
The Supv, Healthcare Surveyor/QMB Healthcare Surveyor Supervisor is responsible for:
- Supervising Healthcare Surveyors (HCS-O) in the Southwest Region (Las Cruces).
- Teaching, training and ensuring HCS-O are able to fulfill required duties;
- Working closely with the Advanced Healthcare Surveyors and other QMB Management staff to ensure training is completed as required;
- Participating in surveys as mentors for team leadership;
- Working in conjunction with other QMB management staff to complete the annual QMB surveys, participate and train QMB Core Competency training;
- Providing oversight to their direct reports and cover for other Supervisory staff as needed for indirect HCS-O staff.

- Individuals receiving DDW, Mi Via, and Medically Fragile Waiver services;
- Families/guardians;
- Provider agencies;
- The community at large.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has:
- Will have knowledge of QMB survey processes, as well as applicable Federal and State standards and regulations affecting programs and agencies involved in providing Medicaid waiver services;
- Ability to mentor and teach others to prepare;
- Ability to participate in and complete compliance surveys;
- Ability completing formal report of findings;
- Ability to coordinate and provide leadership to trainees and other survey team by providing clear, concise and accurate information;
- Ability to use multiple teaching methods to assist others in learning requirements and processes;
- Excellent skills in gathering data;
- Excellent skills in interpreting and analyzing the data and make professional judgments based on evidence gathered;
- Excellent skills in providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers;
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing, Architecture, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Rehabilitation, and/or Criminal Justice and two (2) years directly related experience in community based healthcare services and case management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must Possess and maintain a current Defensive driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with constant laptop and phone usage. Work is also performed in the
field when travel is required for surveys. Travel may be in the post of duty or overnight.
